Group profile

With the epidemic of COVID-19 spreading continuously, the development of new drugs and APIs have not only received unprecedented level of attention, but also brought many scientific problems that need to be addressed urgently: What is the structure-function relationship of organic functional groups composing different drug molecules? What are the pharmacological and toxicological profiles of these functional groups in different organisms? How to efficiently and selectively construct functional groups at different sites of different drug molecules? In order to answer these questions, the knowledge and experimental arsenal one single discipline are often limited. The key to these questions and further technology breakthroughs often requires interdisciplinary collaborations. Considering this, the Developmental Biology – Green Chemistry joint research group in Lanzhou University was established.

Led by Prof. Lan Gao (Institute of Developmental Biology, Lanzhou University School of Life Sciences) and Prof. Mingxin Liu (State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry, Lanzhou University College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering), the joint group has published more than30 high-impact SCI research papers and received highly recognized academic awards. The group values the importance of the recruitment and training of young researchers and postdoctoral students. Excellent group members will be given the opportunity to study with top research teams in and outside China. Taking advantage of Lanzhou University’s special policy for young researchers and post-doctoral fellows, the group is also offering internationally competitive salary, benefit, and promotion track towards tenure. The team is now recruiting (1) Assistant Professors (2) Distinctive Post-Doctoral Fellow (Cui Ying PDF) position:

Introductions to the group supervisors

Lan Gao, Ph.D., Professor in Biology, Lanzhou University. Her research focuses in gene and protein expression related to crystal regeneration research, corneal epithelial apoptosis molecular mechanism, wetland ecological protection and biodiversity research. She has published in over 18 renowned international journals such as Experience EyeResearch, ToxicologyLetters, Nanoscale Research Letters, Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, Molecular Vision.

Mingxin Liu, Ph.D., Cui Ying Professor in Chemistry. His research is devoted to the development of sustainability in Chemical Process towards the accomplishment of “Green Chemistry”. His research has breached the critical gap for the conversion of green fuel towards green food/material. More sustainable oxidation/reduction processes were also developed for the inter-conversion of oxygenated compounds. The applications of photo-sensitizing semiconductors were also explored as heterogeneous catalysts, which contributes to the solution of heavy metal residue problem in pharmaceutical compounds and other critical problems for sustainable development. The research was commented by Science as “a research that could change the world” (doi:10.1126/science.aax0725). The research group have been keeping a strong passion in the inter-disciplinary research of organic/inorganic chemistry and semiconductor/AI. The group welcomes students and postdoctoral fellows who share this research passion any time.
